Week Without Driving
Walk and Roll of Fame

Our local officials make decisions that shape how people reach work, school, health care, groceries, and community life. Week Without Driving offers a firsthand look at the challenges and barriers faced by people who aren’t driving. We invited them to take the sign up and try essential trips without driving, then use what they learn to support safer, more accessible transportation for everyone.
Thank you local officials:

Nonprofits, schools, health-care providers, faith communities, and many other civic groups are invited to join Week Without Driving. By encouraging staff and members to try essential trips without driving, share their own experience and listen to people who rely on walking, rolling, biking, transit, or rides from others, we reach a better understanding of how a trip we usually take in a car is very challenging for nondrivers. Organizations can show their commitment to a community where everyone can reach jobs, services, shops, schools, and social activities safely and independently.
Local Leaders:
Kelly Dillon, Owner, Marianne’s Ice Cream
Mikey Cohen, Board Chair, Bike Santa Cruz County
Kelly Gavin, Executive Director, Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce
Matt Miller, Director of Mobility Transformation, Ecology Action
After taking the Week Without Driving challenge, we hope participants will carry its lessons forward: slow down, look up, and give people walking, rolling, biking, waiting for transit, or crossing the street the space, time, and respect they deserve. Their participation shows a meaningful commitment to listening, learning, and building communities where getting around does not depend on owning a car.
